Four people, including a Jamaat leader and a father with his young daughter, were killed in three separate road accidents in Sirajganj.
The deceased have been identified as Abul Kalam Biswas, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami in Raiganj Upazila; Hannaan Khan (35) of Bahuti village in Sirajganj Sadar; his three-year-old daughter Hafsa Khatun; and Nur Nabi Hossain (55) of Char Nabipur in Shahjadpur Upazila.
According to police, Abul Kalam was returning home on a motorcycle on Monday night after attending an educational camp organised by Jamaat-e-Islami in Bogura. As he reached Sonka area on the Bogura–Sirajganj highway in Sherpur Upazila, he lost control of the motorcycle and hit a road divider. He was critically injured and taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where he died later that night.
In another incident, Hatikumrul Highway Police OC Ismail Hossain said Hannaan Khan was travelling towards Ullapara with his wife and two children on a motorcycle when an unidentified truck ran them over in Salanga. Hafsa died on the spot. Hannaan, his wife Brishti Khatun and their son Hamza were taken to Sirajganj General Hospital, where Hannaan succumbed to his injuries later that night.
Meanwhile, in a separate accident on Monday evening, a cement-laden truck overturned after hitting a pedestrian at Kawak Mor in Ullapara, killing Nur Nabi on the spot. The truck has been seized, though the driver fled.
