Four inter-district robbers held in Chakaria

Police have arrested four members of an inter-district robbery gang along with two microbuses in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

The operation was conducted around midnight on Friday behind the Sub-Registrar’s Office area under Chakaria Municipality, confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhidul Anwar of Chakaria Police Station.

The arrestees are—Md. Selim (35), son of late Kalu Mia of Chauarfari area under Saharbil union; Abdullah Al Mamun alias Shahin alias Sazzad (21), son of Nurul Amin alias Nuru of Koralkhali area; Nasir Uddin (45), son of late Ali Ahmad of Ilishia area under West Boro Veola union; and Touhidul Islam (24), son of Akhtar Ahmad of Eidmoni area under East Boro Veola union.

OC Touhidul Anwar said police received information that a group of miscreants, along with two microbuses, had gathered near the Sub-Registrar’s Office in preparation for committing a crime. When a police team conducted a raid, 6–7 suspects tried to flee the scene. After a chase, four were captured, while others managed to escape.

Police later seized two microbuses used in robbery operations from the spot.

The OC added that the arrestees are active members of an inter-district robbery gang involved in multiple robbery incidents across Cox’s Bazar and other districts. Each of them has several criminal cases filed against their names, including robbery and illegal possession of arms.

A case has been filed under relevant laws at Chakaria Police Station in connection with the incident.
