Four held over battery-run rickshaw driver murder

Police detained four people over snatching a battery-run auto rickshaw and killing its driver in Narsingdi.

Narsingdi Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter at a press conference at his office in Narsingdi on Thursday.

The detainees are Bachchu Mia, 27, son of Mojibar Mia, resident of Patharpara village of Madhabdi, Sohel Mia, 32, son of Moksed Ali, resident of Balusair village, Hridoy, 27, son of Bakul Mia, resident of Patharpara village and Nobi Hossain, 35, son of Iman Ali.

At the press conference, SP Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman said the auto-rickshaw driver, Md Nurul Islam, resident of Bhatapara under Madhabdi Thana, left his house with his battery-run rickshaw on June 15. Nurul Islam made a phone call to his brother at around 8:30pm on that day and said some unidentified people were snatching his battery-run rickshaw. On information, his relatives started searching him. At one stage, Nurul Islam’s body was found tied with a tree in Damerbhawla area under Madhabdi Thana of the district on June 16. 

Shiuli Begum, the wife of the deceased, filed a murder case against the unknown accused with Madhabdi police station. After the case, investigation officer SI Md Riaz Uddin and other police personnel led by Officer-in-Charge of Madhabdi police station Mohammad Kamruzzaman under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) KM Shahidul Islam Sohag started drive to identify the wrongdoers and rescue the hijacked battery-run rickshaw. A team of Madhabdi Thana police detained Bachchu Mia in this connection from Madhabdi Thana area on July 9. According to the information given by him, three others were detained from different areas of Narsingdi and Narayanganj on the same day.
