A joint force arrested four individuals in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur early Tuesday for their involvement in online gambling and illegal casino operations.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Captain Arnob Kabir Papon from the 26 BIR Battalion conducted a special operation in the Kawmara area of Aona Union. The operation was based on intelligence gathered by the military.
The arrested individuals are: Alal (26), son of Thandu Mia; Dulal Mia (26); Shrabon (27), son of Ismail; and Shamim Hossain (27), son of Abdul Aziz. All are residents of Aona Union in Sarishabari.
During the raid, the joint forces seized a large number of items used in illegal gambling operations. These included 9 Android phones, 1 iPhone, 5 button phones, 41 SIM cards, 4 debit/credit cards, 2 passports, 5 national ID cards, 1 laptop, 2 CPUs, 1 monitor, and Tk 20,429 in cash.
The detainees were handed over to Tarakandi Police Investigation Centre at around 4:00 AM.
Officer-in-Charge of the centre, Josim Uddin, confirmed the arrests and stated that the group had been running illegal online gambling and casino activities for a long time. A case has been filed against them.
