Four gamblers with cash money arrested in Sunamganj

A mobile court in Sunamganj has awarded a 30-day imprisonment to four gamblers each on the allegation of gambling at the Officers' Club in Sunamganj on Wednesday night.

Executive Magistrate and Assitant Commissioner Samrat Hossain awarded punishement for those gamblers who were arrested from inside the Officers' club at the dead night on Wednesday.

According to sources, a mobile court team headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner  ( General) Shariful Islam, Executive Magistrates S M Rezaul Karim, Zahirul Islam and police of Sunamganj Model police station conducted operation at the Officers' Club of Sunamganj at night and awarded four gamblers 30-day of non-rigorous imprisonment.

The imprisoned gamblers have been identified as Nurul Islam Talukder son of Ahmmad Hossain Talukder of Nalchhiti Upazila who is also working as the Chief Instructor of Brahmanbaria Technical School and College, Abdul Kashem son of late Abu Taher of Jagdal village under Dirai upazila who is also working as the Extension Officer of BSCIC, Nikhil Chandra Purakayastha son of Nalini Kanta Purakayastha of Natunpara area under Sunamganj Municipality who is employed as Assistant Land Officer at Raniganj union of Jagannathppur upazila and Shayamal Das son of late Sarendra Das of village Painda of sadar upazila who is also working as Deed Writer at local Sub-registry office.

The mobile team also recovered Taka 30,072 from the possession of the gamblers and Taka 4,100 from on the Gambling Board, gambling cards, various brands of cigarettes and drinks during this operation.

Shahidur Rahman, Officer in charge of Sunamganj Model thana informed, arrested gamblers have been sent to jail on Thursday noon.
