Four drug peddlers get life term in Narail

A Narail court sentenced four drug peddlers to life-term imprisonment in a drug case on Thursday.

The convicts are Sohail Rana (39), son of Fazal Ahmed of Purbo Sonapur village under Raipur upazila of Lakshipur district; Rabiul Islam (50), son of Moklech Mandal resident of Purbachanpur village; Sabuj Hossain (30), son of Babar Ali resident of Daitola area; and Tarek Aziz (35) son of Zulfikar Ali of Jashore Sadar upazila.

Additional Districts and Sessions Judge-1 Md. Akram Hossen gave this verdict in presence of convicts Rabiul Islam and Sabuj Hossain. The court also fined them Taka 20,000; in default, they will have to suffer two more months in jail.

According to the prosecution story, in brief, acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a raid on a pickup van from Jashore to Narail on the west side of Sitarampur Bridge on the Narail-Jashore road under Narail Sadar Upazila on April 18, 2014, and arrested Sohail, Rabiul, and Sabuj with 223 bottles of contraband phensedyl. 

Police filed a case with Narail Sadar Thana against the accused on the same day. The investigating officer (IO) of the case submitted a charge sheet against four. After hearing the 14 witnesses and examining other relevant evidence, the court handed down the punishment.
