Four Bangladeshis return home from Indian jail

Four Bangladeshis returned home on Monday after serving five months in a jail in India.

The Petrapole Immigration Police of India handed them over to the Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police in Jashore after completing the legal process on Monday morning.

The returnees are Liton Mia, 32, son of Motahar Ali of Darjganj area of Nilphamari district, Abdul Wahab, 26, son of Abdul Wadud, Imdadul Haque, 35, son of Mokhlesur Rahman and Saidur Rahman, 22, son of Mokhlech Mia of Taipukuria in Panchagarh.

The returnees were handed over to the port police, said Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge of Benapole Immigration Police.

One of the returnees Imdadul said they went to India in the first week of March this year.

Since communication was suspended due to coronavirus outbreak, they could not get in touch with local police for three months.

Later, there were arrested by police in Kolkata and sent to jail on charges of overstaying in India, he added.
