Foundation training for DU teachers held at BARD

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell of Dhaka University (IQAC-DU) organized a comprehensive 14-day residential training program titled ‘Foundation Certificate in University Teaching & Learning’ for young faculty members of DU.

In this program, Prof Dr Sabita rezwana Rahman, Director of IQAC presided over the proigramme while Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, Vice Chancellor of DU, inaugurated this training program as chief guest on May 24, at the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) in Cumilla.

This training initiative, for the first time of Dhaka University history was taken by the Vice Chancellor. There were also present Prof. Dr. Sitesh Chandra Bachar, Pro-Vice Chancellor(Academic), Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed,Treasurer, Prof. Dr. Gulshan Ara Latifa and Saif Uddin Ahmed, DG of BARD as special guests. DU Emeritus Professor Dr. A. K. Azad Chowdhury and  UGC Member Prof. Dr. Haseena Khan delivered the key-note speeches at the inaugural function. The event was attended by Deans, Chairmen, Directors and other Faculty Members.

Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Maksud Kamal, DU VC, in his speech lauded the role of IQAC in enhancing the academic and professional developments of DU teachers. He highlighted the importance of teaching as an art that helps students learn effectively. 

He urged DU young faculties to equip themselves with latest academic knowledge and teaching skills. Participants of this training programme would be highly benefitted by learning and sharing knowledge and experiences from resource persons, he hoped. Fifty-eight faculty members from different departments and institutes of DU have been participating at this training program.

The training program featured 14 specific modules including topics such as professional ethics and dispositions, academic program and curriculum, teaching learning in higher education, assessment and evaluation, professional skills and practices, professional growth and development, ICTE and ICT-based instruction, quality assurance in higher education, well-being of students, facilitating research, emerging issues in university teaching, professional knowledge as DU faculty members, professional understanding of the Dhaka University Order of 1973, essential professional norms, policies and practices at DU.
