Former Water Resource Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen sent to jail

Former Water Resources Minister and former MP of Thakurgaon-1 constituency Ramesh Chandra Sen was sent to jail in explosives act case on Saturday.

Judge Rajib Kumar Ray of the Judicial Magistrate Court ordered to send Ramesh Chandra Sen to jail on Saturday afternoon.

Officer-in-Charge of Thakurgaon sadar police station, Firoz Wahid, said that as former MP Ramesh Chandra Sen was sick, he was not taken in remand. Later, it will be appealed in the court to seek his remand. Superintendent of Police Uttam Prashad Pathak said a special team from Dhaka Police Head Quarter was sent to arrest him under section-3 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. He was sent to the custody of Thakurgaon sadar police station. An individual named Ripon, resident of Hajipara area in Thakurgaon sadar, filed a case against 40 known and 300 unknown people in Thakurgaon sadar police station on August 16. Ramesh Chandra Sen is the main accused in this case. The locals said a team of plainclothes police arrested Ramesh Chandra Sen on Friday night. He is a former MP of Thakurgaon-1 constituency, former presidium member of Awami League and member of advisory council of the party. Anjali Sen, wife of Ramesh Chandra Sen, said a team of 10 to 15 plainclothes police came and took Ramesh Chandra Sen. They could be members of Detective Branch of Police. They did not say anything about where they were taking Ramesh Chandra Sen, she said.

Anjali Sen also said every one of them had weapons. They told Ramesh Chandra Sen to get up and go with them. They forcefully dragged him away. She repeatedly asked where they are taking them, but they did not say anything, she added.

Local Awami League leaders said that some members of DB came and took Ramesh Chandra Sen to Thakurgaon. Officer-in-charge of Ruhea police station was also with the DB team.

President of Thakurgaon District Lawyers Association Zainal Abedin said a case was filed against Ramesh Chandra Sen in Thakurgaon sadar police station under section-143/149/323/324/325/326/307/506(2)/114 and he was arrested under section-3 of the Explosive Substance Act 1908. When he appeared before court, Rajib Kumar Ray ordered to send him to jail.
