Former chairman of Mallikpur Union Parishad and Awami League leader was shot to death by miscreants at Kundoshi area under Lohagora upazila of Narail on Friday.
The deceased was identified as SM Mostafa Kamal, 49, resident of Mongalhata village and son of Akram Shikdar of the Upazila.
According to police and local sources, when Mustafa Kamal reached the Kundashi area of Lohagora municipality on Friday evening, miscreants opened fire to the former UP chairman.
Locals rescued him and took him to Lohagora Upazila Health Complex. However, he succumbed to his injury when he was being taken to Dhaka for treatment.
After the former chairman was shot, angry people attacked the house of his opponent former UP member Akbar Hossain Lipon and his people.
At that time, Palash Molla (41) son of Pannu Molla and Faisal Sheikh (25) son of Liton Sheikh of Mangolhata Uttarpara were shot. They were referred elsewhere for better treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagora Police Station Kanchan Kumar Roy said additional police have been deployed at the scene.
The police are trying to arrest those involved in the murder. The situation in the area is calm at present. The body has been sent to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
