Justice Md Abdur Rashid, a former judge of the High Court and chairman of Bangladesh Law Commission, passed away on Tuesday morning.
He breathed his last at about 8:30 am while undergoing treatment at United Hospital in the city.

The government appointed Justice Md Abdur Rashid as the chairman of the Bangladesh Law Commission for three years on April 21 in 2009 after he retired as High Court judge.
He resigned from the office on October 19 in 2010 following a row with the government.
Justice Md Abdur Rashid was admitted to the United Hospital after he felt sick on Monday night.
He will be buried at the Azimpur graveyard after jumma prayer on Friday.
Justice Rashid is survived by his wife, and a daughter.
His body will be kept at the mortuary at the United Hospital Limited until his daughter returns to Bangladesh from the United States.
Law Minister Anisul Huq and Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan expressed deep shock at the death of Justice Md Abdur Rashid.
In a condolence message, they prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
