Former cricketer ASM Faruque dies

Former cricketer, former manager of national team, former captain of Mohammedan Club ASM Faruque has passed away.

He died of a heart attack at around 9pm on Wednesday (September 16). He was 75 years old at the time of his death.

ASM Faruque was a member of the Bangladesh national cricket team that took part in the three-day private Test match against MCC in Dhaka in 1976 under the leadership of Shamim Kabir. Under his leadership, the traditional Mohammedan won the first Dhaka League title in the 1977-1978 season.

After his retirement, he held various senior positions in the country’s cricket board. He was the manager of the Bangladesh team in the 2003 World Cup. He was also the manager of Bangladesh Youth in 2016 U-19 World Cup. He has also served as the head of the BCB’s game development department.
