Former BCL leader dies in police custody

A former vice president of District Chhatra League and president of Joyrampur high school managing committee died in mysterious circumstances on March 14. 

Some villagers and relatives alleged that former vice president of Chuadanga District Chhatraleague and president of Joyrampur High School Managing Committee Jahid Hasan was killed by police but police said that he was taking phensedyl, arrested him, became sick for over taking phensedyle  and died for this reason at hospital on March 14.

Villagers of Joyrampur and Ukto brought out procession in the town and formed human chain on Sadar hospital compound on March 15 in protest against the death. 

The deceased is Jahid Hasan, 42, son of Lal Mohammad of village Joyrampur in Damurhuda upazila of the district and former vice president of District Chatra League. He contested as chairman candidate in the election of Joyrampur union parishad. 

Eyewitnesses Abul Kashem, son of Abdul Motin and Ali Kadar, son of Ashadul Hoque of village Joyrampur said Jahid Hasan was watching the activities of construction workers of his building at Rail Station area of the village, while some police men rushed there and detained him, tried to pick up him on police pick up van and began to beat. 

On the other hand, Police Super Jahidul Islam said Jahid Hasan was staying at Fakirbagan and taking phensedyle. On information, police rushed to the spot, arrested him, and took him to Sadar hospital on police pick up van for treatment. After admitting him in the hospital, he died. 

Abdul Khaleque, OC of Damurhuda police station said police arrested him when he was taking phensedyle a huge quantity. He became sick at the time. Police took him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital and he died there. 

Villagers of Joyrampur and Ukta in Damurhuda upazila of the district brought out a procession chanting slogans against police in district town and formed a human chain on the compound of Sadar Hospital on March 15. The villagers demanded judicial inquiries on the death of Jahid Hasan. 

Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, MP of Chuadanga-1 constituency went to sadar hospital, found the body, expressed shock with the family  members and urged upon all to avoid all unruly activities on March  15 at 10 am.
