The Center for Law and Policy Affairs (CLPA), and the Ark Foundation have called upon the government to form a ‘National Health Command’ for proper management of Covid19 pandemic in Bangladesh.

In a virtual meet, they observed that despite resources and government’s efforts, things are not well-managed due to lack of proper planning and coordination. Views of the health experts were not considered in taking decisions.

The Health Command is needed for proper implementation of the infectious diseases prevention, control and elimination law in Bangladesh.

Many other laws such as consumers’ rights protection law and disaster management law are related to the infectious diseases control law.

And that’s why the Command is needed for successful implementation of the infectious control law, they observed.

Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary MP, Project Director of Bangladesh Cancer Society Dr Golam Mohiuddin Faruk, AKM Maksud of Gram Bangla Unnayan Committee, and Executive Director of Ark Foundation Dr Romana Haq spoke at the discussion moderated by advocate Syed Mahbubul Alam.

The CLPA also conducted a survey which found that 43 percent of the respondents do not have any idea about the infectious diseases prevention and control law.
