Forging social resistance against abuse of drugs along with its illicit trafficking and trading can be the best way of protecting the young generation from drug-addiction.
Simultaneously, concerted efforts of all the government and non-government entities concerned and the community has become crucial to ensure a drug abuse free society to attain the cherished goal.
The observation came at a workshop titled "Formulation of Comprehensive Action Plan to Forge Social Resistance against Abuse of Drugs" in Rajshahi city on Tuesday.
The Commissioner Office of Rajshahi division organized the workshop in association with the Directorate of Narcotics Control (DNC) and the Security
Service Division of the Ministry of Home at Grand River View Hotel in the city.
Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the meeting as chief guest, while Secretary to the Security Service Division Mokabbir Hossain spoke as special guest with Divisional Commissioner GSM Zafarullah in the chair.
DNC Director General Abdus Sabur Mondal, Deputy Inspector General of Police Abdul Baten and Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Abu Kalam Siddique also spoke.
Among others, Additional Commissioner Dr Ziaul Haque and Additional Director of DNC Fazlur Rahman spoke. Mayor Liton said all the local government institutions side by side with the public and private bodies should come forward and work together to attain the cherished result in this regard as the drug-abusing situation is gradually aggravating.
He said the present government has a declaration of zero tolerance against drug-addiction and urged all quarters to come forward to protect the young generation from the grip of social crime. "We have to build a healthy society to achieve sustainable development goals," he said, adding the movement against drug abuse should be turned into a social movement.
Mokabbir Hossain said full-length support of the community in general and leaders of influences in particular can be the effective means of freeing the society from abuse of drugs along with its illicit trade and trafficking. Creation of mass-awareness about the curse of drug-abuses coupled with its fatal consequences has become crucial to mitigate the social disease.
