Forest Department plants 60,000 trees on SUST campus

Campus afforestation prog begins in SUST

Campus afforestation programme has started in Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed inaugurated the program by planting a sapling of a white sandalwood tree.

This plantation started on Saturday (July 29) at the Bangabandhu Chattar area. At the same time, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Kabir Hossain planted a sapling of a Hartaki tree.

While inaugurating the afforestation program, the Vice-Chancellor said that every year a large amount of trees are planted in the campus. The Forest Department has already planted 60,000 trees in the campus. “With the aim of building a green campus, a total of 15,000 saplings of fruits and medicinal plants will be planted in the campus by inaugurating the annual forestry program today. We are instructed to plant trees inside and around each residence hall,” he said. 

At this time, member of Bangladesh University Grant Commission Dr. Md. Abu Taher, Registrar (Acting) Md. Fazlur Rahman, Institution of Communication and Information Technology Director Professor Dr. Md. Zahirul Islam, Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Transport Administrator Prof. Md. Anwar Hossain, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture and Mineral Sciences Prof. Dr. Swapan Kumar, Syed Mujtaba Ali Hall Provost Professor Dr. Md. Abu Saeed Arefin Khan Nobel and Accounts Director Sohel Md. Sohel Uddin and others were present.
