Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen has paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after his victory in the 12th parliamentary elections from Sylhet-1 constituency.

He paid the homage by placing a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi-32 in the capital on Tuesday (January 9).

Dr AK Abdul Momen was accompanied by the winner of Sylhet-2 constituency Awami League MP Shafiqur Rahman Choudhury, chairman of Sylhet Zila Parishad Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan, and APS to Foreign Minister Khaleda Jasmin Mithela.

Meanwhile, Foysol Choudhury, a member of the Scottish Parliament for Lothian, congratulated the foreign minister on his successful re-election in the Sunday’s polls. Khaleda Jasmin Mithela confirmed the matter to the Daily Bangladesh Post on Tuesday.

Foysol Choudhury, convener of the Cross-Party Group on Bangladesh in the Scottish Parliament, praised the Bangladesh government’s commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.

“I offer you my best wishes for your future role in this refreshed administration, which I know you will tackle with the good performance you displayed as Foreign Minister,” he wrote in a letter sent to Dr Momen on Monday.

The Scottish lawmaker also highlighted the importance of the relationship between Scotland and Bangladesh, particularly in addressing the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis.

Highlighting the foreign minister’s ‘dedication to providing a place of safety for Rohingya refugees’, the Scottish MP thanked him for hosting a delegation of Scottish parliamentarians last year.
