Development partners have assured Bangladesh government of providing assistance for implementing the 100-year Delta Plan 2100, the biggest ever project of the country. They made the assurance at a view exchange meeting on ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100’ at the National Economic Council (NEC) organised by General Economic Division (GED) of the planning commission in the city’s Agargoan area on Wednesday.
The planning commission has presented the projection of the Delta Plan 2100 before the development partners while planning minister MA Mannan was present as a chief guest at the programme. The minister said the government is working to reduce poverty as well as the effects of climate changes in the country. As per the directives of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Delta Plan 2100 has already been started, he added.
“We are now working to implement Delta Plan 2100 through different plans including five-year plan. We will implement it with our own resources. We will also take assistance from the development partners. If anyone wants to take part in this project we will welcome them,” said the minister.
The planning minister further said the government will take assistance from neighbouring countries such as India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanman and China as there are water related issues with them. GED member Dr Shamsul Alam informed that the first phase of the Delta Plan will be implemented by 2030. A total of 80 projects have been selected for implementation under the Plan. Of them, 65 would be infrastructure projects while 15 others would aim at enhancing institutional capacity, efficiency and research.
He also informed that the government would implement Tk 2,02,721 crore annual development programme (ADP) in the current fiscal for some 1564 projects. Out of them, 248 projects are in the Delta Plan 2100. For Delta Plan project, Tk 21,919 crore has been allocated for implementing these project in this fiscal. Tk 14,779 will come from government exchequer and Tk 7,141 crore will come from the project assistance, he added.
Among others, Abul Kalam Azad, chief coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office, Md Nurul Amin, planning secretary, Kabir Bin Anwar, secretary of water resources ministry, ambassadors and representatives of Netherlands, European Union, German Development Cooperation, UNDP and IMF were present in the meeting.
