A seven-member delegation, led by Ambassador of Sweden Alexandra Berg von Linde, on Sunday paid a courtesy call on Speaker of the JatiyaSangsad (JS) DrShirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the latter's office in the capital.
Other delegates are Ambassador of Maldives Shiruzimath Sameer, Ambassador of France Marie Masdupuy, Canadadian High Commissioner Lilly Nicholls, British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke, the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Gwyn Lewis and Consul of Singapore Sheela Pillai.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues including political empowerment of women, gender equality, prevention of violence against women and child marriage, a press release said.
Speaker, during the meeting, said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has achieved commendable progress in ensuring gender equality and preventing violence against women.
Swedish ambassador underscored the need for collective efforts of all to prevent violence against women.
