Football suspended

All types of football competitions suspended in light of the imposition of a weeklong lockdown in the country, according to Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) officials confirmed on Sunday.

The federation's vice-president Kazi Nabil Ahmed said the second phase of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), which was supposed to resume on April 8, also be suspended. The league committee will confirm the date later.

"Since the nationwide lockdown by decree of the government will be in place from Monday, the BPL will not start this week," said the vice-president. According to BFF officials, the other ongoing football events might be suspended once a gazette on lockdown is released by the government.

That would mean the ongoing (WFL) and Third Division Football League would also be suspended while the Bangladesh Championship League (BCL), which was scheduled to resume from April 12, might not resume in time.

The suspension will, however, not be applicable on ongoing Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games -- men's and women's events – which are currently taking place. The decision regarding the Games events will be taken by the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA).
