Food supply uninterrupted

Govt initiatives prove effective

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the whole world is facing a crisis when it comes to food production. Many people around the world are fearful of food shortage in the coming months as the entire world is on lockdown due to the deadly virus.

Fortunately in Bangladesh, the supply of food has remained uninterrupted despite shutdown for more than one and a half months as the government has taken various effective measures in this regard.

Though many still fear famine in Bangladesh and all over the world, experts in this regard have reassured that Bangladesh will not have to face such a scenario. The government, under the close supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has taken proper initiatives to harvest Boro paddy in the Haor region.


Due to the quick response from the authorities, 

the people of Bangladesh will be able to avoid 

disasters such as famine.


In the crucial period of coronavirus, the country has witnessed bumper Boro production, which accounts for more than half of the rice production. Agriculture Minister Dr Mohammad Abdur Razzaque has also assured that the country has sufficient reserve of food for the next 7 to 8 months.

Besides, except wheat, the country is almost self-sufficient in production of food items, including potatoes, vegetables and fishes, so there will be no food crisis, according to Department of Agricultural Extension officials.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled a stimulus package of Tk 5,000 crore to support agricultural sectors such as horticulture, fisheries, poultry, dairy, and livestock. Production of legumes and spices is also expected to increase this year. 

The government has taken so many storing initiatives to ensure uninterrupted food supply for the people during the epidemic. Due to the quick response from the authorities, the people of Bangladesh will be able to avoid disasters such as famine. 

We hope that the country will be able to recover from the epidemic and its ill effects on society and the economy in due time.
