Bangladesh would not face a shortage of fish, meat, and other animal proteins.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md. Abdur Rahman said this while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop, titled ‘Agro Business Planning, Technologies and Marketing Advice and Implementation Support for Livestock Sector’ orgainsed by the ‘Livestock and Dairy Development Project’ held at a city hotel on Sunday.
The minister emphasized the need for a continuous supply of animal meat to nurture talented and capable individuals for the nation's development. Role of milk, eggs, fish, and meat is vital in building a prosperous and merit-based society. We are working to ensure supply of these essential products.
The Livestock and Dairy Development Project, through its various activities, is enhancing efficiency in cattle breed development, investing in technology, and creating linkages to increase milk and meat production. Rahman hope that this project will play a pivotal role in realizing the vision of a developed and prosperous Bangladesh by 2041.
Regarding the adoption of modern technology in the dairy and poultry sector, expressing confidence he said that, the livestock industry would significantly contribute to the goal of building a smart Bangladesh by 2041. Creation of a dairy development board, a modern digital database of the livestock sector, and the establishment of an animal insurance sector is under process.
The minister has also discussed initiatives for food safety, including the construction of modern animal slaughterhouses at the district level and raw markets at the upazila and union levels. Plans for the construction of modern standard metro slaughterhouses in three divisional cities (Rajshahi, Khulna, and Chittagong) will pave new opportunities for meat export.
The government is focusing on ensuring not only the expansion and development of the livestock sector but also its qualitative improvement. As per the directive, we are upholding quality standards, ensuring that produced meat meets health and international standards.
He hope that advanced business plans in the livestock and dairy sector would benefit producers, farmers, and entrepreneurs while promoting the expansion of businesses through product diversification.
