FM sees scopes of expanding ties with Turkey

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen is ‘happy’ with the existing ties with Turkey, but still he sees scopes of strengthening the relations for mutual benefits.

He made the comment when outoging Turkish Ambassador Devrim Öztürk made a farewell call on him on Thursday at his office, the foreign ministry said.

Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in all possible sectors of mutual interest including political issues, bilateral trade, investment, disaster management, education, and culture.

Momen welcomed Turkish cooperation especially in the area of trade and investment, ICT sector, defense, energy and gas exploration.

He also welcomed more scholarships from Turkey for Bangladeshi students those who wish to pursue their higher study in Turkey.

He thanked the Ambassador for their continuous support extended to the Rohingyas in the wake of the problem including their early repatriation to Myanmar as well as providing health support to the Rohingyas through establishment of Turkish field hospital in Cox’s Bazar.

He briefed the Turkish Ambassador about the recent development of the Rohingya issue and sought support of the Turkish government in this regard.

Apart from Rohingya, he also appreciated the Turkish government for giving permission to establish the busts of the Father of the Nation Bangbandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Ankara as a reciprocal arrangement of establishing a burst of Kemal Ataturk on Kemal Ataturk Avenue in Banani, Dhaka.
