FM meets new Kuwait emir

Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen met the new Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah on Monday and congratulated him on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and invited him to visit Bangladesh.

He is in Kuwait for a two-day visit.

Dr Momen informed the new emir that Bangladesh has observed one-day state mourning after the demise of Sheikh Sabah. He also expressed gratitude to Kuwait for helping the Bangladeshi expatriates. He handed over two letters of President Md Abdul Hamid to the new emir – one condolence message for the late emir and the other is congratulatory message for the new emir.

After the meeting, Dr Momen met his counterpart Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the foreign ministry said.

He requested him to resume flights between the countries so that Bangladeshis can rejoin their work in Kuwait.

The Kuwait minister informed Dr Momen that they would take a decision in this regard in a meeting after two days.

Dr Momen also invited Kuwait to set up an oil refinery in Bangladesh along with investments in different industries.
