Flood situation worsens in 12 districts

The flood situation in the north and north central part of the country is expected to deteriorate in 12 districts. 

The water of eight rivers of the country was flowing over the danger level on Saturday.

The Water Development Board’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) made the prediction in a report on rainfall and river conditions on Saturday.

The report on the river situation and forecast said that the water level of the Brahmaputra-Jamuna river is rising, which could continue for the next 48 hours. However, the water level in the Ganges is declining, which may also continue for the next 48 hours.

On the other hand, mentioning the water of the river Padma as stable, the report said that the water level of the Padma may rise in the next 24 hours. The water of the major rivers in the north-eastern part of the country, except Kushiyara of the Meghna, is declining. This trend of decline in water level may continue for the next 48 hours.

The Warning Center also forecast that the flood situation in Kurigram, Gaibandha of the northern region; Jamalpur, Bogura, Tangail, Sirajganj, and Pabna of the northern-central region; lowland areas of Manikganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Shariatpur, and Chandpur of the central region could worsen in the next 24 years.

According to the report, water of eight rivers is flowing over the danger line at 12 points. The water of Padma river is flowing over the danger line at Sureshwar and Goaland points and the water of Meghna river is flowing over the danger line at Chandpur.

The water level of Jamuna river has crossed the danger level at 6 points - Aricha, Mathura, Sirajganj, Kazipur, Sariakandi, and Bahadurabad.

Besides, the water of Brahmaputra in Chitalmari, Dharla in Kurigram and the waters of Dudhkumar river are flowing over the danger level at Pateshwari station, said the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of the Water Development Board.
