Some recent flawed administrative decisions on the movement of public transports have caused immense sufferings to the RMG workers as well as the people across country.
It was seen that those decisions were unrealistic and contradictory to each other and intensified the sufferings to people, mainly to the workers of the Readymade Garments (RMG), in the travels to Dhaka from their village homes after the vacation of the Eid-ul-Azha.
Experts said that the government could have arranged special trains, launches and other transports to carry the RMG workers to their workplaces.
It is worth mentioning here that earlier the government had arranged some special trains to carry cattle and mango. ‘Cattle Train’ services were launched to carry cattle before the Eid-ul-Azha and ‘Mango Train’ services were launched to carry mango from the northern districts of the country.
Many people suspect that these flawed and unrealistic decisions might have come from the tables of some administrative officials who have no affiliation with the mass people and the existing reality amid the ongoing Covid pandemic.
Almost all the developed and developing countries are trying to fight the Covid-19 pandemic imposing lockdown and other effective measures. Bangladesh government has also been trying heart and soul to halt the spread of the pandemic besides keeping the country’s economy strong. But these recent unrealistic administrative decisions put the government efforts in question.
The government imposed a two-week long lockdown from July 23, which is supposed to be ended on August 5.
In the meantime, all the RMG factories have been allowed to open from August 1. But, this decision was taken without taking any measure for the workers’ smooth return to the capital.
Before the opening of the RMG factories no public transport like bus, train and launch were allowed to carry passenger.
As a result thousands of workers had to rush Dhaka amid untold sufferings and each of them had to pay huge amount of additional money in their travel.
But, the authorities concerned on July 31 allowed the movement of water vessels and public transports when all the workers and other people already have reached to the work place.
