Gazi Group Chattogram thump Gemcon Khulna by 9 wickets in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup encounter at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday. Bowling first, Chattogram’s ace pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman scalped 4 wickets to bundle out a star-studded Khuna team for a mere 86 runs.

This is so far the lowest total of the five-team tourney. Than a blazing unbeaten fifty from opener Liton Das sealed Chattogram’s win in just 13.4 overs. Liton saw the chase through, finishing unbeaten on 53 off 46 balls with 9 fours. Chattogram spinners Nahidul Islam and Taijul Islam scalped two wickets each.

Brimming with confidence after their nine-wicket victory against Beximco Dhaka in their opening game, Mohammad Mithun led Chattogram strolled past Mahmudullah Riyad-led Khulna. With this victory, they made it two wins in a row.

Chasing an easy target of 87 runs, Chattogram openers Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar got off to a good start. Khulna bowlers were helpless in front of Liton's visionary batting. The opening pair scored 73 runs to take their team closer to victory. Soumya was then dismissed for 26 runs.

However, Liton kept going and picked up his half-century off 42 balls. Liton and Mominul Haque then took their team over the line with 38 balls to spare. Khulna’s skipper Mahmudullah Riyad grabbed the only wicket for his team.

Earlier, Chattogram captain Mohammad Mithun decided to field after winning the toss. Mustafizur made it a stern task for Khulna batsmen at the start. Khulna’s star studded batting lineup had no answer to Fizz’s charismatic bowling as the left-arm pacer bamboozled the Khulna batsmen with his cutters and finished with impressive figures of 5/4 in 3.5 overs.

Ironically, it was yet another poor batting display from the Mahmudullah Riyad-led Khulna. Imrul Kayes was the highest scorer for Khulna with his 21-ball 26.

Khulna’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, failed to shine with the bat again. Shakib scored just 3 off 7 balls. However, on Saturday he also became only the second player after Windies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to have reached the double of 5000 runs and 350 wickets in the T20 format.
