Five more Covid deaths in 24hrs

Bangladesh registered five more deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am Thursday. This takes the total number of deaths to 27,939. The current positivity rate stands at 1.25pc.

Although the daily deaths have seen minor fluctuations, the overall number of cases remains significantly low.

According to experts, the Covid-19 situation in a country can be claimed to be under control if the infection rate remains under 5pc for two weeks. Bangladesh has successfully achieved that feat over 1.5 month ago. The country recorded 244 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,573,458, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday.

The death rate now stands at 1.78 pc in the country, as per the press release. Around 19,507 samples were tested during this time.

Among the deaths reported, three died in Dhaka division, and one each in Chattogram, and Rangpur divisions. 

Around 294 people recovered from the virus during the time. Up until now, a total of 1,537,518 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 97.72 pc. 

As of Thursday, 5,142,862 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 255,918,344 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
