Police on Friday arrested five suspected Neo-JMB members from the capital’s Bashundhara residential area who were allegedly planning to attack on law enforcers. Police said they were self-radicalised members of “Wolf-Pack” of Neo JMB, which means a group of people that operate as a hunting and attacking pack.
The arrestees were identified as Md Shiblee Shahjad alias Sadi, Shah M Asadullah Mortuza Kabir alias Ababil, Masrik Ahmed, Md Ashraful Al Amin alias Tarek and SM Tasnim Rifat. Of them, Sadi and Ababil were BBA students of North South University (NSU) Deputy commissioner of Counter Terrorism unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Saiful Islam said that they were self-radicalised by watching online videos of various militant groups, and were planning to launch attacks on law enforcers.
They have no spiritual leader. They select leader by themselves and choose target. The group’s latest plan was to attack on police, Saiful added. Police learned about the Wolf-Pack for the first time after arrest of those five from the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area on Thursday. Police recovered 10 detonator, four gas bottles and five cell phones from their possession, said Monirul Islam, chief of CTTC unit, while addressing a briefing at DMP media center. The arrestees were planning to conduct “Istihadi” (suicide bomber) attack and they were trying to collect funds from Dark Web from it, he added.
“We have recovered some explosives which were similar with the IED’s recovered from Paltan and Khamar Bari. We are suspecting their involvement behind it and investigating into it,” he said. On July 24, law enforcers recovered to IED’s from Khamarbari and Paltan which were powerful enough to kill people and destroy properties in the surrounding areas, said investigators.
Why a self-radical group target police for attack, in replay of quarry, Monirul said that the arrestees came to know from online that major militants were killed in different police drive. As a revenge, they target police for the attack, he said.
