Five killed in Sirajganj

A Dhaka-bound bus under National Travels banner, which had left Rajshahi at Salanga Thana Goja Bridge area on the Sirajganj-Hatikumrul Bonpara highway at around 10 am on Friday (December 31), lost control and fell into a ditch. Four people were killed on the spot at least 10 others were injured. The identities of the dead are not yet known.

Tikumrul Highway Police Officer-in-Charge Lutfar Rahman said a National Travels bus lost control when it reached Goja Bridge area of Salanga Police Station in Sirajganj on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara Highway on the way to Dhaka from Rajshahi around 10 am on Friday. 

At that time, the passenger bus fell from the highway to the side road and crushed an autovan. Four people, including a woman, died on the spot. At least 10 others were injured.

Hatikumrul Highway Police and Fire Service members rushed to the spot and rescued the dead and injured. 

The injured were shifted to Sirajganj Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital. Another died at the hospital while undergoing treatment.
