At least five people were killed in two separate road accidents took place in the capital’s Uttara and Bijoy Sarani areas early Sunday.
Three of the deceased, identified as Amit, Naimul Haque, and Javed Alam Khan, died in the Uttara incident.
Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of Uttara East Police Station said, a Dhaka-bound stone-laden truck ploughed into pedestrians around 2:30am.
Two died on the spot, while the third was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police seized the truck and detained the driver.
In a separate accident around 4:00am in Bijoy Sarani area, two motorcyclists were killed on the spot when a microbus hit their motorcycle.
The bike was heading towards Jahangir Gate when the microbus took a sudden turn at the intersection, said Abdullah Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Kafrul Police Station.
The identities of the two motorcyclists could not be confirmed immediately.
The driver of the microbus fled the scene, and police are trying to identify the vehicle using CCTV footage, the OC said.
