Five children including two sisters drowned as a boat capsized at Kalikapur Nikli Beel in Sharishabari Upazila of Jamalpur on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Subarna Akter, 15, Jhuma Akter, 8, daughters of Kabirul Islam of Kalikapur Village of the upazila, , Rodoushi Akter, 11, daughter of Ripon Shikdar of Panchashi Village, Jannatul Joya, 10, daughter of Jobanur Hossain of Paishkka Village and Antara,12, daughter Golam Mustafa of Kalikapur Village.
All the victims, except Rodousi, were the students of local Matiur Rahman Talukder School and College.
Inspector Mohabbat Kabir of Tarakandi Police Investigation Centre of Sharishabari said Subarna, Jhuma, Rodousi, Joya and Antara came to their Grand father’s home at Kalikapur Village and hired a boat to see the flood water.
The girls met the tragic end of their lives as the boat, carrying them, capsized at Kalikapur Nikli Beel around 12:45pm.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies.
