At least five houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Gorongal village under Shekherhat union of Sadar upazila in Jhalokathi on Thursday night.
The affected people said properties worth around Tk15 lakh have been damaged.
They said, fire originated from an electric short-circuit in the Abdul Hi Talukder's house around 3:00am on Thursday and engulfed 5 houses.
On information, two units of Kaukhali upazila and Jhalokathi Fire Service rushed to the spot.
Before they entered in the spot, the flame rapidly spread in the houses of Nurujjaman Raja, late Imam Hossain, Zakir Hossain, Belayet Hossain and surrounding areas. Cash money, furniture and documents, all the belongings of the houses were burnt.
