Five dredgers seized, 11 detained in B’baria

A total of five dredgers were seized and 11 labourers were detained in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Wednesday while they were illegally extracting sand from Meghna River.

A drive, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Nabinagar uapzila and Executive Magistrate Md Abu Musa, was conducted on Meghna River near Charlapang village in the upazila on Wednesday noon. The five dredgers were seized at that time.

The detainees were identified as Alamgir Hossain, 54, resident of Matlab Uttar Chandpur, Md Jashim Uddin, 39, resident of Sonargaon, Md Khokon, 40, resident of Bhola, Abdur Rahman, 26, resident of Lakshmipur, Mostafa, 36, resident of Natunchar, Jubayer, 37, resident Matlab Dakkhin Chandpur, Al Amin, 28, resident of Bhola, Kamal Bhuiyan, 52, resident of Munshiganj, Humayan Kabir, 30, resident of Patuakhali, Md Nabir, 26, resident of Lakshmipur, and Imam Hossain, 36, resident of Patuakhali.

Later, a mobile court was conducted and the detainees were sent to court by sentencing them on various terms under Balumohal and Soil Management Act. The five dredgers were seized as well. The seized dredgers were MB Tamim, Dui Vai Ek Bon, Habiba, Madinar Pothe and Baitul Mokaddes Load Dredger.

After sentencing the detainee through the mobile court, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Abu Musa said the drives will continue for the interest of the public.
