Five-day show of Aparera begins at Natmandal

A brand-new theatrical production is ready to entertain the Dhaka audience. Theatre and Performance Studies department of Dhaka University will stage its new play ‘Aparera’ (The Others) today at 7pm at the Natmandal Auditorium of DU. Based on six European masterpieces, the play will be staged every at the same time at the same venue till July 14.

The production dramatises the anatomy of love, relationship and desire in the context of contemporary designs of living. This theatrical experimentation re-examines European and Russian modern masterpieces. It explores the idea of ‘other’ and love by engaging Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s ‘A Doll’s House’ and ‘The Lady from the Sea’, Russian playwright Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Seagull’ and ‘Three Sisters’ as well as Swedish playwright August Strindberg’s ‘The Father’ and ‘Miss Julie’.

The production is designed and directed by Ashiq Rahman Leeon, while Shahman Moishan has worked as the dramaturge. Both of them are serving as the assistant professors at the DU’s Theatre and Performance Studies Department. ‘Aparera’ will be performed by the students of Honours 3rd Year-5th Semester of the department.
