Fishing cat released in coastal forest

A captured fishing cat from Kutubpur area of Begumganj upazila was released at the coastal forest adjacent to Kompaniganj upazila on Thursday. On Thursday evening, at the presence of local forest officers, the fishing cat was released.

Noakhali Forest Officer Md Farid Miah said that the fishing cat calf was caught beside a poultry farm in Begumganj area. Later, Begumganj Forest Department Officer Shamsuddin came to the area and rescued the fishing cat. The cat is four feet long and two feet high. Later, the fishing cat was released to the forest.

Officials said that this species of cats is not harmful towards people. These usually eat small animals and birds. It is being speculated that this cat came to the area looking for food.
