Marking the Mujib Barsho celebration life saving equipment was distributed among the fishermen of remote areas along the Meghna and Tentulia Rivers in Bhola district by the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) South Zone on Wednesday morning.
This information was confirmed by Lieutenant Commander Amirul Haque, Media Officer at BCG Headquarters on Wednesday afternoons.
At the time life jackets, life buoy, radios, torches and raincoats were distributed among the maeginal fishermen.
Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Ashraful Haque Chowdhury was present at the distribution programme as the chief guest while, various senior officers of BCG were present on the occasion.
The official said since its inception, BCG has been providing regular assistance to the marginal fishermen, the helpless and the destitute in the coastal areas besides curbing smuggling, drug trade as well as conservation fishery resources in the areas under its jurisdiction.
He further said that Bangladesh Coast Guard is always ready in all catastrophic situations including cyclones, tidal surges, floods and epidemics and regular cooperation of Coast Guard including relief and rehabilitation among helpless and distressed people in the affected areas is continuing and such activities will continue in future also.
