Fish worth Tk 20 lakh of UP chairman’s Gher poisoned

Some miscreants poisoned Vidyanandakati Union Parishad Chairman Amjad Hossain’s 300-bigha Gher (Fish enclosure) in Vidyanandakati union of Keshabpur upazila of Jashore on Saturday night killing fish worth of Tk 20 lakh.

According to local sources, Amjad Hossain has been doing fishery for 3 years in the 300-bigha Gher at Pukuria Beel in Hariyaghop village in the upazila. 

Allegedly, Amjad’s opponents have poisoned the Gher over previous hostility. As a result, various species of fish worth Tk 20 lakh have died including Rui, Katla, Mrigal, Silver Carp, Grass Carp, Shol, Chang, Taki, Jiel, Magur, Koi, Tangra and Puti.

On this occasion, Amjad Hossain, Chairman of Vidyanandakati Union Parishad said that his opponents caused financially damage upon him as they could not cause him political damage. He informed the Keshabpur police station about the incident and filed a general diary at Keshabpur police station, he added.
