"We are regularly cleaning the lake, cleaning canals and drains. But the sewage line from houses goes into the canal and is constantly polluting the water of the canal. Due to pollution, I cannot cultivate fish in the canal, mosquitoes are being cultivated there. This cannot be allowed to happen any longer. Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara lakes will be prevented from pollution and fish farming will be done.

Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Md. Atiqul Islam said this in the chief guest's speech at the fish release ceremony at Kuril Lake in the capital on the occasion of the conclusion of the National Fisheries Week 2022 organized by the Department of Fisheries on Thursday (November 10, 2022) morning.

At the beginning of the event, DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam released fish fry in Kuril Lake. Four species of fish such as Rui, Katla, Kaliboush, Mrigel are released. They will grow in natural environment in Kuril Lake.

DNCC Mayor said, 'Not only in Kuril Lake. Fish farming will be done in all the lakes in phases. Talked to Fisheries Department about fish farming in lakes of Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara and Niketan areas. The department told me that the water of these lakes is polluted. These fish will die. Therefore, the water of the lake should be protected from pollution. Sewage lines cannot be discharged into lakes. Sewage should be managed at source at home. Our City Corporation team is doing door to door inspection of sewerage lines. Strict action will be taken if the sewage line gets into the drain or canal.

Meanwhile, the Mayor also said, 'Honorable Prime Minister is constructing mega projects like Padma Setu and Bangabandhu Tunnel on one hand and on the other hand he is developing animal husbandry, fisheries and agriculture. The country is now self-sufficient in food under the leadership of the Prime Minister. Everyone should pay attention to animal husbandry, fisheries and agriculture following the instructions of the Prime Minister. Must be cultivated on arable land. Fish should be cultivated in reservoirs, lakes and ponds.

Mentioning that construction of buildings will not be allowed by filling the city's reservoir, the mayor said, 'If the construction of a five-star hotel starts by filling the reservoir adjacent to the Kuril flyover, I will stop it with the people. We took the people with us and rescued the Lautla canal and ensured the flow of water. Buildings will not be allowed to be built by filling reservoirs and lakes in the city. People don't accept it if buildings are built by filling the reservoir with sand in the middle of the night. Reservoirs and lakes must be saved for future generations.'

DNCC Mayor also said, 'To save the city, everyone must be aware. You have to love the city and the country with all your heart.

Due to climate change, the incidence of dengue has also increased in the month of November. Aedes mosquitoes do not breed in drain or sewer water. Aedes larvae grow in stagnant clear water. Care should be taken not to collect water in flower tubs, unused tires, tin shells, open packets of chips, various open containers, roof or anywhere else in your home. Dispose of accumulated clear water.

DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam also said that a community center and playground will be constructed by selecting a place in Kuril Mor area.

Dhaka District Fisheries Officer B.M. Md Ishaq Mia, Councilor of Ward No. 17, Hashina Bari Chowdhury, Reserved Women Councilor and Regional Executive Officer Md Zulkar Nayan were also present in the program moderated by Mustafa Kamal.
