The first foreign ship 'Venus Triumph' has anchored in the deep seaport of Matarbari in Maheshkhali on Tuesday.
The ship reached Matarbari deep seaport in the morning. Later, the pilots of the port took the foreign ship from the deep sea to the jetty built temporarily for the coal-fired power plant.
Ensemble Steamship Limited is acting as the domestic agent of the ship of Sea-Shore Marine Pvt. Ltd. and Green Enterprise will act as the stabilizer.
The Panamanian-flagged vessel set sail from the Indonesian port of Pelabhuban Silegon with parts of the seaport's stream generator to the deep-sea port of Matarbari, Venus Triumph on December 22.
Chittagong Port Member (Marine) Commodore Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said the ship 'Venus Triumph' arrived at Matarbari deep seaport in the morning. More ships will come in phases. We were fully prepared to board the ship at the jetty.
According to port sources, “The Chittagong Port Authority has completed all the preparations for loading ships at the jetty built for the coal-fired power plant at Matarbari. As the waters of Chittagong port extend up to Matarbari, the port of call will be considered as the port of call in case of shipwreck there. In other words, all the tolls will go to Chittagong port.”
The Chittagong Port Authority held a meeting at Bandar Bhaban on December 23 to coordinate the shipwreck at the jetty. There is a guideline on how to operate a ship coming for a coal-fired power plant. The port authorities have taken several decisions.
The Matarbari Deep Sea Port Development Project is being implemented by the Chittagong Port Authority with funding from Japan's development partner JICA, the Government of Bangladesh and the Port of Chittagong. The project is expected to be completed by 2026.
