Fire gutted 12 shops in Gournadi

A fire broke out in Mandir Goli of Barisal's Gournadi upazila in which 12 shops of various items including cement, mattress, variety and hardware were burnt to ashes. The fire broke out in the temple alley of the port at 10.30 am on Saturday.

According to local sources, the fire started from the Lap Mattress shop in Mandir Goli area. As news of the fire spread, hundreds of people, including traders, were immediately involved in putting out the blaze. On the other hand, 2 units of Gournadi and Wazirpur Fire Service and 1 unit from Barisal tried to control the fire for 2 hours. 

Deputy Assistant Director of Barisal Fire Service Station Md Belal Uddin said, "After receiving the news, we went to the spot with two units from Gournadi and Wazirpur and three units including one unit from Barisal and brought the fire under control in a two-hour operation." 

However, the cause of the fire and the extent of damage to the 12 burnt shops could not be identified. Authorities will be able to say that only after the investigation report of the investigation committee comes, he said.
