At least 80 shops and houses were gutted in a fire at the Kengrachari Bazar in Belaichhari upazila of Rangamati district on Monday afternoon.
The fire originated from a tea shop of the Bazar around 1pm and soon engulfed the adjacent business establishments and houses, as a result, 80 shops and houses were completely gutted, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said.
Being informed, army, police, Ansar personnel rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals and affected businessmen and house owners of efforts, he added.
Bilaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mizanur Rahman, Rangamati Hill District Parishad member Remliana Pankhwa, Upazila Parishad Chairman Birottam Tanchangya, Upazila Administration and Police Administration officials visited the Bazar.
