Fire burns Mirpur slum

A horrifying fire broke out in the Chalantika slum at Mirpur area of the capital in the wee small hours on Friday. At least two slum dwellers were seriously injured by the fire.
Russell Shikder, officer in charge at the fire service headquarters, confirmed the matter. However, he said, the cause and the extent of the damage could not be known immediately.
The official said the fire broke out at around 4am in the slum located at E Block in Section 6 under Mirpur. A total of 15 units of fire service worked till 5:45am to douse the fire.
Two injured persons Shahidul Islam (20) and Parveen (35) were admitted to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College hospital (DMCH). Around ninety percent of Parveen’s body was burnt.
Inspector of DMCH police outpost Bachchu Mia said a woman named Parveen was admitted to the burn unit at the hospital in connection with the slum fire in Mirpur.
