Fire breaks out at Dhaka airport’s cargo section; 20 units battling to douse flames

A fire broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday.

The fire broke out at the cargo village of gate No 8 of the airport around 2:30 pm, said Talha Bin Jashim, an official of the Fire Service and Civil Defense (Media cell).

Thirty firefighting units are working to bring the blaze under control, he said.

Six other firefighting units are on the way to the spot.

Members of Bangladesh Army, Air Force and two platoons of BGB have joined the efforts to douse the fire.

Flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka have been suspended.

According to airport sources, all take-offs and landings have remained halted since the blaze erupted around 2:30 pm in the cargo area, said Md Masudul Hasan Masud, spokesperson for the airport’s executive director.
