Many Bangladeshi students dream of studying abroad, and Finland has become an attractive option for higher education. Finnish universities offer quality education, modern facilities, and various scholarship opportunities for international students, including those from Bangladesh.
The Finnish Government Scholarship Pool is one of the well-known options, mainly for doctoral level studies and research. Besides, universities like the University of Helsinki, Aalto University, University of Oulu, and University of Turku also provide scholarships for international students based on academic merit.
To study in Finland, students must meet some basic requirements. For bachelor’s programmes, applicants need to complete their secondary education. For master’s and doctoral programs, relevant bachelor’s and master’s degrees are required. Language proficiency is important too. Students applying for English-taught programs need to submit IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE scores, while Finnish or Swedish-taught programs require language skills in those languages.
Some universities, especially the Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS), might ask applicants to take entrance exams such as the International UAS Exam for certain programs.
The application process starts with submitting an online form to the chosen university, followed by uploading necessary documents like academic certificates, language test results, passport copy, motivation letter, and sometimes letters of recommendation and CV. For art, design, or architecture programs, a portfolio is needed.
Students should also be aware of financial requirements. Tuition fees for non-EU/EEA students generally range from €8,000 to €20,000 per year, based on the program and university. Additionally, applicants must show proof of sufficient funds to cover their living expenses in Finland, estimated at around €6,720 per year. Interested students can check eligibility and scholarship opportunities through the universities’ official websites.
