Fakirerpool Youngmen's Club has been given a much-needed reprieve by FIFA, as the global governing body has lifted the transfer ban on Wednesday that had put the club’s top-flight status in
jeopardy. The club can now begin its crucial recruitment drive just eight days before the transfer window closes on August 15.
The sanction, which was imposed earlier this month, came as a result of the club's failure to settle last season's wage disputes with Uzbek footballer Sardor Jakhonov. However, after Fakirerpool reportedly cleared the outstanding Tk 25 lakh, FIFA confirmed the lifting of the ban in a letter to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
"We are all delighted to hear the news. The letter lifting our sanction came to the BFF yesterday and they have informed us," Ahmad Ali, the club’s general secretary, said on Wednesday.
A source close to the BFF confirmed the development, noting that the club is now free to complete both domestic and foreign transfers.
