FIFA fined 30 thousand 250 Francs (Tk 40 lakh) to the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) due to breach of discipline.
There was an apprehension that FIFA would fine BFF for breach of conduct. The match commissioner submitted a three-match report to the FIFA disciplinary committee. The committee discussed the matter and punished the BFF.
Bangladesh national football team played their first outings against the Maldives at Male of the FIFA World Cup qualifying 2026 on October 12, 2023. Six players violated FIFA rules, and for that reason, FIFA fined five thousand Francs (TK 6,42,700). Bangladesh drew a 1-1 draw with the Maldives in their first encounter.
The security was also not sufficient in the return leg match at Dhaka against the Maldives on October 17. The spectators brought fireworks to the gallery. FIFA fined 14 thousand Francs (TK 14,99,560) as the audience entered the field at one stage. The Red and Green won over the Maldives by 2-1 goals and reached the second round of World Cup qualifying in 2026. They are now in Group I.
The same thing happened against Lebanon at Bashundhara Kings Arean Stadium on November 21. There were fireworks, and an audience entered the ground. Adding to that was the lack of security officials in the match, so FIFA fined BFF 11,250 Franc (TK 14,46,075). Bangladesh earned one point in the match. They drew with Lebanon 1–1. Lebanon striker Majed Osman scored in the 67th minute of the match. Bangladesh forward Sheikh Morsalin equalized in the 72nd minute of the game.
Meanwhile, BFF applied to reduce the punishment, but the world football governing body rejected it. FIFA officially announced the punishment for BFF on Thursday.
BFF urged in the fans in the press release to maintain discipline while supporting Bangladesh on the field. BFF also said that tougher security protocols will be enacted to avoid smoke flares and crowd troubles in the future.
