A Field Day titled ‘integrated pest management of paddy crops’ was held in Seneragti area under Tala Upazila of Satkhira on Saturday. It was organized by Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Entomology division.
Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) Director General Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir spoke at the program as the chief guest.
Dr. Sheikh Shamiul Haque, Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Entomology division, presided over the program. Other consultants and scientific officers also spoke at the discussion.
The speakers said paddy is our main food crop. The attack of insects, diseases and weed are increasing in paddy cultivation. Farmers usually apply pesticides at their fields for six to seven times in a season. The chemicals of pesticides cause harm to water, soil, human health and the environment. Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in association of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) is motivating farmers not to use pesticides rather adopting integrated pest management while cultivating paddy in their fields.
