50 heroic freedom fighters of Jhalakathi district have not been getting allowance for 7 months. For this reason, they have to live an extremely inhuman life with their family. Especially the retired, unemployed, and freedom fighters that depend on allowances are the heroic children of Liberation War are now suffering from extreme frustration with the family in the nationwide lockdown.
The freedom fighters of the district said that the main source of livelihood of many is the freedom fighter allowance. They have been in a dilemma since last January when it suddenly stopped.
The poor freedom fighters have been living an inhuman life for the last seven months. Many could not celebrate Eid due to the closure of allowances.
Due to the lack of alternative funds, the victims had to go through more miserable conditions. When the allowance is stopped, they go to the district social service office and ask to go to the upazila social service office again. In this way, the freedom fighters kept moving from office to office. They are suffering from extreme frustration of not getting any solution from anyone. Many of them applied to the deputy commissioner but the problem was not resolved.
Khan Habibur Rahman, a retired DG of Jhalakathi, a retired DG of the education department, said he too has not been receiving allowances for the last seven months. After the allowance was stopped, two Eids have passed.
Most of the freedom fighters whose allowances have been stopped are poor. On the other hand, the freedom fighters are in dire financial straits as the allowance has been stopped due to Covid-19 crisis.
Deputy Commissioner Md Johar Ali said that many allowances have been stopped due to the online system.
He have spoken to the concerned department about the matter after receiving a written complaint.
The closed allowance will be introduced soon.
