Many people are suffering from fever, cold and cough across the country. When the country is witnessing a third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the seasonality of influenza activity has raised a new public health concern in addition to dengue.

The flu tends to be associated with more body aches and fatigue than a cold and symptoms of the common cold include fevers, coughing and sneezing. Patients with viral fever and cough have also been thronging hospitals and clinics since a week. If a member of the family has fever, other members are also getting infected and falling sick.

On the other hand, with the new cases, the number of dengue patients is increasing everyday this year. New dengue patients are being admitted to different hospitals and clinics every day. Outbreak of the disease is usually seasonal, peaking during and after rainy seasons.

It is difficult for the patients

 to know whether they are

infected with common flu, dengue or

coronavirus without testing

All the patients, who are visiting the hospitals and clinics, are suffering from various seasonal diseases like fever, cough and throat pain. Therefore, it is difficult for the patients to know whether they are infected with common flu, dengue or coronavirus without testing.

Seasonal influenza is characterised by a sudden onset of fever, cough (usually dry), headache, muscle and joint pain, severe malaise (feeling unwell), sore throat and a runny nose, says the World Health Organisation. The cough can be severe and can last 2 or more weeks.

Most people recover from fever and other symptoms within a week without requiring medical attention. But influenza can cause severe illness or death especially in people at high risk  Experts apprehend that people may also get infected with typhoid fever by drinking contaminated water during the rainy season. The physicians advise people to stay inside during the hottest part of the day. People get dehydrated and their body may overheat due to current hot spell. This can lead to heatstroke that causes serious damage to body or even death. Therefore, people must follow the physicians and experts’ health guidelines.
